Ludhiana: In the eight phase of the foot march along Buddha Nullah, the environmental activists on Sunday morning started at Dera Beas Satsang Bhawan Bridge in Ramesh Nagar and marched till Gaughat Gurdwara Bridge, as they battled winter chill and poor visibility due to fog.
The team leader on the day was Puja Sengupta, a social activist working for the benefit of environment and animals. She encouraged people from all segments of society for their participation in the event.
The team informed they witnessed constant degradation of the water body with dirty surroundings along the stretch. Besides, they also saw constant release of industrial waste through sewer lines into the nullah. They said the chainlink fence was also ineffective due to gaps in the lower portion. They found the nullah polluted with dairy, sewage and plastic waste along this stretch.
