After completing the investigation in the cases, the DCB filed the chargesheet against Bhalaji before the special court to try criminal cases against MPs and MLAs in Srivilliputhur.
The first case is against Bhalaji and his two accomplices for collecting money from 23 people with the promise of getting them government jobs in Aavin and in government departments. The second case is based on a complaint from K Nallathambi who is one of the co-accused in the first case, who claimed that Rajenthra Bhalaji had used him as a tool to collect money from people promising jobs in Aavin.
After his anticipatory bail petitions were dismissed by the Madras high court on December 17, 2021, he absconded. As many as eight special teams were constituted to nab Bhalaji.
On January 5, 2022, the police team rounded up a car near Hassan city at Mysuru in Karnataka when he was about to leave towards Goa. He was brought to Virudhunagar and was remanded in judicial custody. Subsequently, the Supreme Court granted bail to Bhalaji.
