Dharwad: Stressing the many salient aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, member-secretary of the Indian Council for Historical Research (ICHR) Umesh Kadam on Saturday said that implementation of the policy would force open the doors of hitherto unexplored vistas in the sector.
Kadam, who flagged off a national conference on ‘Bharat@2035: A Transformational Vision for Indian Higher Education’ organised by the Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Development Research in collaboration with the Centre for Educational and Social Studies in Dharwad, said that the NEP would unveil new dimensions in the field of education and research. “The NEP stresses inter-disciplinary learning, and research, which offered ample scope for students to undertake innovativion,” he said.
Kadam added that the policy gave a fillip to innovative teaching methods, besides encouraging new ways of drafting the curriculum. “NEP matches the high standards required in today’s age for the acquirement of knowledge, thereby ensuring that students were prepared for the challenges ahead,” he said.
Director of the Indian Institute of Technology-Dharwad, Venkappayya Desai said that NEP-2020 had finally brought the curtains down on the education system pioneered by Macaulay. “Under NEP-2020, priority is being given to regional languages. This will usher in a transformation in the sector besides empowering students mentally, physically, and intellectually,” Desai said.
Kailash Chandra Sharma, chairman of Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Research, who presided over the session said that NEP-2020 would effect a fundamental change in the manner that students thought, besides encouraging them to take advanced research. He stressed the need to popularising Sanskrit. tnn
