Belagavi: On Saturday night, Ravi Kokitkar, Belagavi district president of Sri Ram Sena, survived a bullet firing incident in Hindalaga village, on the outskirts of the city.
According to sources, some miscreants who came on a motorbike opened fire on Kokitkar, who was in a car. A bullet struck his neck and scratched the hand of the car driver as it passed. The incident reportedly took place around 8pm. Kokitkar has been admitted to a private hospital in the city. According to hospital sources, he is stable. Kokitkar had been associated with Sri Ram Sena for many years.
Pramod Mutalik, Sri Ram Sena chief, in his statement issued through a video has strongly condemned the incident. “Hindu activists do not fear such attempts by miscreants. To answer them, we are staging protests across the state on Sunday. Hindu Samajotsav will be held in Belagavi at Sambhaji Garden on Sunday evening. The police department must take this issue seriously and punish the culprits at the earliest,” he demanded.
Kokitkar had taken the initiative to install the portrait of freedom fighter VD Savarkar in the Hindalaga central prison, where Savarkar had been held for 99 days in 1950. On December 29, 2022, ministers Araga Jnanendra and BC Nagesh installed the portrait of Savarkar inside the jail in the presence of Kokitkar. tnn
