Two nabbed with charas worth 5 lakh in Vadodara

VADODARA: The special operations group (SOG) of Vadodara on Saturday arrested two persons with 3.80kg of charas valued at Rs 4.62 lakh. Of the two, one is a Vadodara resident and another is resident of Bihar.
The two were identified as Shahnawaz alias Shanu Salim Sheikh, a resident of Lal Akhada area, near Sarasiya talav road in Yakutpura area of the city; and Azimuddin Ahmed Ansari, a resident of Dumra village in Nabigunj area of Bihar’s Siwan district.
Police had received a tip-off that Shahnawaz was going collect the contraband from Azimuddin. Accordingly, they kept a watch near Agrasen Bhavan guest house in Alkapuri area. Shahnawaz was on his moped with a bag while Azimuddin was standing with a black coloured school bag when the SOG team reached the spot.
The two were apprehended and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) at Gotri police station. Their questioning revealed that three other persons were also involved in the racket.
Police booked the other three who are at large. They were identified as Pradeep, a resident of Bihar’s Raskaul area; Ismail alias Allu Sheikh, a Vadodara resident; and Santosh, also a Vadodara resident.
According to police, Pradeep is the one from whom Azimuddin had purchased the drugs in Bihar. Ismail had allegedly purchased 2kg of charas from Azimuddin.
