DEHRADUN: Swami Avimukteshwarananda, shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth, one of the prominent seats of the Adi Shankaracharya order and based in Joshimath, has filed a PIL in the SC seeking urgent intervention in the matter of “portions of the holy town sinking”.
The PIL says that despite indications that cracks were developing in houses in the town, no action was taken. The shankaracharya told TOI that he decided to file the PIL “as people were worried and the government was not proactive”. However, he added, “But it (the state government) seems to have become active in the last two days... yet the reasons behind the impending danger are to be ascertained”. The PIL was filed on Saturday and it may come up for hearing in a couple of days, his secretary said.
