Cop dies after falling from local train in Thane
57-year-old police sub-inspector died after falling from a local train at Kalwa station in Maharashtra's Thane district, railway police said on Sunday. The incident took place late Friday night, they said.Sub-inspector Manoj Bhosale, who was attached to Powai police station in neighbouring Mumbai, fell down while alighting from the suburban train at Kalwa station, an official from Thane railway police station said.The body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem.The Thane railway police have as of now registered an accidental death report and are conducting a probe into the incident, the official said. Maharashtra reports 11 fresh Covid-19 cases, no deaths in last 24 hours
Maharashtra on Saturday recorded 11 new coronavirus infections which took the tally of cases in the state to 81,36,791, the health department said here. The death toll remained unchanged at 1,48,418 with no new pandemic-related death reported. On Friday, Maharashtra had reported 32 new Covid-19 cases and one death. With 13,417 swab samples tested since previous evening, the number of COVID-19 tests conducted across the state so far rose to 8,60,13,994. The Pune administrative circle recorded six new Covid-19 cases, followed by three in the Mumbai circle and one each in Nashik and Nagpur circles.
Actor suicide case adjourned to Monday
The bail plea of TV actor Sheezan Khan (28), in judicial custody for abetment of the suicide of his co-star and former girlfriend Tunisha Sharma (20) last month, was adjourned on Saturday. The Vasai court will hear the matter on Monday. Khan was arrested after Sharma allegedly committed suicide on December 24 in a Naigaon studio.
Last chance to fill board exam forms
Now private students who missed filling out forms for the SSC and HSC 2023 exams have been given one last chance to register. So far only regular students are allowed to register for the board exams. Private students can fill out Form-17 online between January 10 and February 12. SSC students have to log on to form17. mh-ssc. ac. in. HSC students can visit form17. mh-hsc. ac. in. Students filling out Form-17 during these dates will have to pay the examination fees, processing fees, late fees and super late fees. Details of fees to be paid will be available on the websites. No physical registration for the exams is possible. Last month, the board had allowed regular SSC and HSC students to register for the 2023 exams by paying late and super late fees. Private student registration with late fees ended on November 25, 2022. This will be the last chance to register for the exams.
Woman gets 3-month term after killing motorcyclist
Observing that it was her duty to drive at a moderate speed and take care of others and vehicles passing by her society, a magistrate’s court convicted and sentenced a now 33-yearold woman to three months’ jail, 13 years after she rammed her car into a motorcyclist, leading to his death as his pillion-riding wife was also injured. Zankruti Parikh was driving out of a Vile Parle (E) housing society.
Mistaking man for sister’s teaser, youth attacks him with knife
In a case mistaken identity, a youth attacked a 32-year-old man with a knife in Dombivli to avenge the teasing of his sister. However, on realising that he had targeted the wrong person, he apologised to his victim and fled the spot.The victim, Vithal Bhalekar, has suffered cuts on his right hand and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dombivli. Tilak Nagar police have filed a case under different IPC sections against the attacker, who owns a pan shop in the area, and have launched a hunt for him.
