Four-year UG , year-long PG courses at Gujarat University from next year

AHMEDABAD: From the next academic year at Gujarat University, the duration of undergraduate courses will be four years, and postgraduate courses will be a year.
The decision was taken at the GU syndicate meeting on Saturday.
Sources said the decision had been taken as per the New Education Policy (NEP). The policy comes into effect from the next academic year.
Sources said this decision does not change the total duration of UG and PG courses, but it will help students who wish to take admissions in PG courses abroad. Such students had to complete a one-year honours course after their graduation.
Sources said the UG courses include BA, BCom, BSc, BBA and BCA, among others.
"As per the new format, students will get a certificate after completion of one year, a diploma after the second year, a degree in the third year, and honours in the fourth year," a source said.
This will help students who want to take a break during the course, as they will get a certificate every year.
"Even if a student completes one year of an undergraduate course, s/he will get a certificate and can seek a job on its basis.
students can pursue the remaining course at their convenience," the source added.
