HAVERI: People from across Karnataka normally participate in Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, but now the Kannada literary fest has extended its reach overseas. Over 100 NRIs who speak Kannada have participated in the Sahitya Sammelana taking place in Haveri. The Kannada Sahitya Parishath had invited more than 175 NRIs, while at least 100 NRIs attended the Kannada lit fest.
Kannadati Bhagirathi and Ravindra Kulkarni from UAE, along with Nandini Narayan from Germany said they were excited to witness the event. Besides these nations, delegates from the United Kingdom, Russia, France, Dubai, and many other countries enthusiastically participated in the Kannada literature fest.
"For the very first time, I have participated in the 86th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Haveri. It has been a different experience for me. I have been living in Germany for the last several years. We have been organising events for Kannadigas, especially Karnataka Rajyotsava. Now, we are very happy to take part in this prestigious Kannada fest because it's our mother tongue," said Raveendra Kulkarni.
He also noted that for the first time, Kannada Sahitya Parishath has invited NRIs to the Sammelana. "We are really thankful to Mahesh Joshi and foreign coordinator Pavan Bahaddhur Desai for this opportunity," he added.
Another NRI, Kannadati Bhagirathi, a resident of UAE, said: "I have worked for Kannada and Kannadigas for many years in different countries. I have, however, never shared the dais with Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana. I am very excited now because it is an opportunity to see such a huge number of Kannadigas in Haveri."
Nandini Narayan, from Germany said, "I am grateful to the Kannada Sahitya Parishat for honouring me on this dais."
Vice-president of Indian Cultural Center, Doha in Qatar Subramanya Hebbagilu said, "It is a wonderful event for me since I have never been to a Kannada literary meet in Karnataka before. Of course, we live in Doha, Qatar, but we speak Kannada at home, so I am very happy."
