Five persons booked for forced conversion bid in Ambedkarnagar

LUCKNOW: Close on the heels of alleged illegal conversions in Sitapur, five persons were booked in Ambedkarnagar district on Saturday for forcibly converting villagers to Christianity.
Police said local residents informed them that a mass was organised in Mahmudpur Chapra village where the members of two families were being converted to Christianity. Station officer, Mahruaa, Gajendra Vikram Singh, said that a villager, Siyaram, alleged that three persons, Raj Kumar, Botal and Ranjeet, visited him on January 5 and asked him to reach the house of one Chhavilal Nishad on January 6.
"We reached Nishad's house and found that some other villagers were also there. We were asked to embrace Christianity and shun Hinduism. The accused also used derogatory words against our religion. I left the spot and informed the police," Siyaram informed the police.
Cops’ raids on hideouts of accused
An FIR has been filed under the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021, against Bhullar, Ram Kumar, Botal, Ranjeet, and Chhavilal Nishad. They have been charged with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class,” Singh said. He said police teams were carrying out raids on the possible hideouts of the accused.
