PATNA: Amid chief minister Nitish Kumar working hard to bring the opposition together to give a concerted fight to BJP in the next 2024 Lok Sabha polls, conflicting statements have come from the RJD with whose support the former stays in power in the state.
A day after RJD state president Jagadanand Singh said his party boss Lalu Prasad has already blessed Nitish to be the next PM, deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday said the JD(U) leader was not in the race for country’s top job. “Nitish is sure to become PM since Laluji has already given his blessing,” Jagadanand told the media on Friday, adding, “Nitish Kumarji ko to Laluji ne pahle hi dahi ka tilak laga diya hai”.
Predicting Nitish will become the PM, Jagadanand said all those who got Lalu’s blessings such as HD Deve Gowda and IK Gujaral became PMs. Stating that soil of the state has immense power to transform anyone’s fate, Jagadanand asked Nitish to embark on a nationwide tour to get the support of the masses.
But Lalu’s son Tejashwi said on Saturday: “He (Nitish) has already made it clear about his standing in national politics. The CM has said he is not in the PM race although he is trying to unite the opposition parties to fight elections together…Yahi to baat hai (this is the fact of the matter).”
JD(U) parliamentary board chairman Upendra Kushwaha objected to the comment made by Jagadanand and said, “It’s the people of the country who will make anyone PM, and not any individual. Well, everyone can extend support.”
Last week, Nitish said he had no problem with the Congress pushing Rahul Gandhi as PM candidate. “I want to make it clear again that I am not a claimant for the post. I only want to bring more and more parties opposed to the BJP together,” was how Nitish had told the media. Yet the debate about him being in PM race refuses to die down.
