COIMBATORE: Everyone should do their bit in protecting environment, said former vice-president M
Venkaiah Naidu.
Addressing members of
Rotary Club in an event held at Neelambur in the city on Saturday, Venkaiah said people should give importance to safeguarding of waterbodies. “Chennai witnessed floods in the recent past as people neglected waterbodies and environment.”
Talking about lifestyles of youths and children, Venkaiah asked people to eat healthy food. “Fast food culture is spoiling the health of many young people. Traditionally, Indians were known for taking healthy food and practising good lifestyle,” he said and added that, “Parents should ensure that children would desist from watching television for long hours and concentrate on their health. Watching television for long hours will affect the children physically and psychologically.”
He said practising yoga is good for health. “Some say that Prime Minister
Narendra Modi is imposing Yoga. It is not related to any religion. It is a way of life and leads to healthy lifestyle. If people practise yoga it will help them to improve their health.”
He said mother tongue is important than any other language. “It does not mean that people should not learn other languages. When there a need, people should learn other languages. However, other languages should not be imposed. I used to encourage members to talk in their mother tongue in Parliament. I started learning Hindi as I felt it was essential when I was in Delhi.”
