Dense fog covers Delhi; 20 flights, several trains delayed

NEW DELHI: Severe cold wave and foggy conditions continued to prevail in the national capital on Sunday morning.
According to IMD, Safdarjung in Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 1.9°C, Aya Nagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.6°C while Lodhi Road recorded 2.8°C & Palam 5.2°C.
At least 20 flights were delayed at Delhi airport as visibility lowered due to dense fog.


"Around 20 flights have been delayed at Delhi airport due to weather conditions. There was no flight diversion reported till 6am," said an official at Delhi airport.

"Visibility is very low at the airport amid the severe cold that we all have been experiencing," said passengers at Delhi airport.
Several trains in north India were also delayed due to fog.
"Forty two trains are running late in the Northern Railway region due to fog," said Northern Railways officials.

"I came from Bihar's Patna and my train reached here late by 2-3 hours due to fog," says Dhananjay Kumar, a passenger.

The city recorded the season’s lowest minimum temperature as Saturday turned out to be the coldest day in two years.
“The cold day and cold wave conditions will abate from 9th. The reason for harsh weather conditions on Saturday was that the western disturbance was not significant and didn’t affect winds, moisture etc,” said RK Jenamani, senior weather scientist, IMD.

According to the IMD, the cold-day condition and cold wave are likely to continue on Sunday, while dense fog condition may persist till Monday.
Delhi had been suffering cold-day and cold-wave conditions since January 5, while isolated areas of the city have been affected by harsh winter conditions since January 4.
