AHMEDABAD: From 2023 -24 academic year, undergraduate course will be a four-year course in Gujarat University instead of three-year course as of now. The postgraduate course will be a one-year course instead of a two-year course at present. The decision was taken during the GU syndicate meeting held on Saturday.
Sources said that the decision has been taken as the New Education Policy (NEP) guidelines have prescribed the same. The NEP guidelines come into effect from the next academic year. Sources said that this decision doesn’t change the total duration of UG and PG courses but it will help those students who wish to take admission abroad in PG courses. Such students had to complete a one-year honours course after completing their graduation. Sources said that UG courses will include courses such as BA, BCom, BSc, BBA and BCA among others. Sources said that under the new format, students will get a certificate after completion of one year, diploma after second year, degree in the third year and honours in the fourth year.
This will also help the students who take a break during the course as every year they will get a certificate. Sources said that even if a student completes one year of undergraduate, the student will get a certificate and based on that certificate will be able to get a job. The students can pursue the rest of the course at their own convenience.
