NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old man, along with his 31-year-old maternal uncle, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a five-year-old child from Gautampuri in southeast Delhi. Police said the man wanted to 'gift' the child to his uncle who lost four of his sons.
The arrested men have been identified as the uncle, Sunit, who worked as a mason, and Neeraj, who worked at a motor workshop. None of them have any previous criminal involvement, police said.
Around 8.30 pm on January 1, a child, who was playing outside the house, went missing. "After searching locally for two days, the boy's father, Buchu Paswan (44), reported the matter to police on January 3. The complainant didn't suspect or alleged anyone for kidnapping. On this, a case was registered and during investigation, the complainant, his family members, relatives, friends and local residents of the area were questioned," said a senior police officer.
"After dedicated efforts, a police team managed to get a breakthrough that a local resident, Neeraj, had also left the area on the night of January 1. His digital footprints were analysed and it was found that he had left Delhi. Eventually, the team traced Neeraj," the officer said.
Neeraj confessed that he had kidnapped the child and shifted him to the residence of his uncle in Aligarh (UP).
"He said that his maternal aunt had given birth to four sons, but none of them could survive and they died just after their births. Further, he said that he wanted to gift a baby boy to his maternal uncle and hence, planned to kidnap the child. Based on his disclosure, the police team swung into action and rescued the child safely. The child has been medically examined and both the accused persons have been arrested," the officer said.
