Dhanbad, Chandrapura rly line have to be shut: DGMS
Dhanbad: The director general of mines safety (DGMS), Prabhat Kumar, on Saturday said the Dhanbad-Chandrapura rail line is under threat due to the underground fire and train services on this section are bound to be stopped at some point in time.
Kumar said several mines affected by the underground fire along the rail line have been shut due to the threat of subsidence and recently, he has denied permission to start work in one of the mines under the Barora area of BCCL as a precaution. He, however, refused to name the closed mines.
He added, “The rail track faces no immediate threat. I have asked the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) to assess the ground situation of the underground fire along the rail line and its possible impact on the track. The CIMFR is yet to submit its report.”
The 34-km-long Dhanbad-Chandrapura line was closed for passenger trains for the first time on June 15, 2017, considering the safety of passengers.
