Looter hurt in encounter in Azamgarh
Varanasi: A notorious looter-Chandrama Prasad- was arrested after suffering bullet injuries in exchange of fire with police in Pakdi area under Tarva police station in Azamgarh district on Friday late night.
His accomplices managed to escape.
SP Azamgarh Anurag Arya said that on getting inputs regarding movement of some criminals between Pakadi Bazar and Mudehari village for targeting a jeweller for loot, cops of Tarva police station cordoned the area near Pakadi crossing on Friday night. During a vehicle checking drive they tried to stop motorcycle borne three persons when they tried to accelerate the pace of vehicle in the bid to escape.
However, in this bid they lost balance and fell on road. Later they opened indiscriminate fire on police team, said Arya. The cops also retaliated in similar style after cautioning the criminals to surrender, he said adding, after the firing was stopped, police combed the area when one miscreant was found lying on road with bullet injuries in his leg while his accomplices had managed to escape. Apart from a country made revolver, live cartridges, a motorcycle was also recovered from him.
Arya said that when police started interrogating thr injured criminal after hospitalising him, he disclosed his identity as Chandrama Prasad. A total of 20 cases, mainly of loot are lodged against Chandrama with Azamgarh and Delhi police. He had recently come out of Tihar Jail of Delhi and started restrengthening his gang.
