Jail inmate, another suspect liaised with gangster in Ludhiana: Cops
LUDHIANA: Police have named two persons, including a Ludhiana jail inmate for their involvement with gangster Ajay Sharma alias Ajay Pandit in planning a murder. Pandit was wanted in cases of attempted murder. The jail inmate confessed that he was in touch with Ajay Pandit and they were planning to kill their rival.
The two persons nominated have been identified as Bunny Chopra and Kali Gujjar, both from Ludhiana. Bunny Chopra is lodged in Ludhiana Central Jail in a drug peddling case. Police arrested Ajay Pandit on January 3 with two illegal weapons and live cartridges. Pandit is facing at least 11 criminal cases and has been declared proclaimed offender in two cases.
Inspector Beant Juneja, in-charge, CIA-II of Ludhiana police commissionerate said that during interrogation, Ajay Pandit said that he procured weapons to kill his rival, who is a Ludhiana resident. He was in touch with his friend Bunny Chopra, lodged in jail and was planning the murder. He said that they were friends earlier but relations soured between them later. Ajay said that the man he wanted to kill had implicated him in a few cases and he wanted to settle scores. Bunny also had a rivalry with the same person.
“Police brought jail inmate Bunny Chopra from jail on production warrant. Bunny confessed his involvement in the conspiracy and he has been arrested. During interrogation, it was found that Bunny had procured a weapon, which was handed over to Kali. Police have nominated Kali but he is yet to be arrested,” said Juneja.
When asked if a mobile phone had been seized from Bunny, the inspector said, “Bunny said that he did not have a phone and would use the mobiles of fellow inmates to talk to Ajay Pandit and others.” The Ludhiana police team arrested Ajay Pandit from Una’s Basoli village, where he was living in disguise.
