BELAGAVI: Timely assistance by Chikodi assistant commissioner Madhav Gitte to save a person heavily bleeding following a road accident is being lauded by people.
On Thursday at 3.30pm, on his way to Raibag town to conduct a sitting related to the land tribunal, AC Madhav Gitte spotted a person who had met with an accident near Examba. The man was heavily bleeding and had lost consciousness.
AC stopped his car and looked at the situation. He also tried to contact an ambulance, but it took longer than expected. He shifted the injured person with the help of some locals into his vehicle and admitted him to Chikodi taluk hospital. The injured person is said to be stable and out of danger.
AC Gitte's prompt assistance to the injured person during the golden hour following the accident has been praised in the area. According to sources, the injured person is a sugarcane labourer, hailing from Osmanabad district of Maharashtra.
Speaking to TOI, Madhav Gitte said: “The person was already unconscious due to heavy bleeding when I checked him. The accident took place about 10 minutes ago. I tried to call an ambulance but found out it may take longer for it to arrive. As golden hour (the first hour after an accident) plays a key role in saving the life of the injured person, I drove him to Chikodi hospital in my vehicle. I am happy that he is stable now according to the doctors treating him.”
The officer said: “It is everyone’s duty to help a person who has suffered an accident and provide access to medical treatment within the golden hour. The government is also creating awareness about it among the public.” Madhav Gitte is an IAS officer of the 2020 batch.
