NOIDA: A 28-year-old man, who claimed to be a youth wing worker of the BJP Ghaziabad unit, was arrested for misbehaving with cops in Greater Noida on Thursday night. The suspect was driving around in a Maruti car blaring a siren on the Bilaspur-Sikandrabad road and identified himself as Rahul Bhati—a Yuva Morcha neta—when stopped by the police for a check. Officers said he was inebriated and failed to produce the car documents.
The car was seized, and the man was arrested.
“A Swift Dzire car was travelling at high speed, blaring a loud siren, when police intercepted it on the Bilaspur-Sikandrabad road by Dankaur. A man stepped out and identified himself as a Yuva Morcha neta. Our personnel asked him to show documents of the car, but he failed to do so. Bhati was inebriated,” deputy commissioner of police (Greater Noida) Abhishek Verma said.
Police said Bhati also misbehaved with on-duty personnel during the check. He was unwilling to produce the car documents and warned the police of the consequences, saying they didn’t know who he was.
“The windshield of the Maruti car in which Bhati was travelling bore stickers of the BJYM, a BJP flag and a sticker of ‘Adhyaksh: Mahanagar, Ghaziabad BJP’. There were black films and a siren installed in the car,” Verma said. Police took action against Rahul Bhati under CrPC section 151 (arrest to prevent cognisable offence without magisterial order) and produced him before a competent court. Further legal proceedings are underway. BJP Ghaziabad unit president Dinesh Singhal said that he does not know Bhati and that Bhati is not a BJP worker.
