NIT land grab case: Policebook Satish Uke, six others
Nagpur: Ajni police lodged an FIR on Thursday against controversial lawyer Satish Uke and six others for an alleged land grab of around 1 acres owned by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) and also for forging documents related to the deal in Babulkheda. Uke is currently in jail for other cases.
CP Amitesh Kumar said the police will appoint a forensic auditor to investigate the case.
NIT’s divisional officer (south) Pankaj Patil informed the Ajni police about fraud. Shrirang Housing Cooperative Society president Subhash Manilal Baghel, Chandrapekhar Namdevrao Mate, lawyer Satish Mahardwarao Uke, Pradeep Mahadevarao Uke, Madhavi Pradeep Uke, Pekhar Mahadevarao Uke and Manoj Mahadevarao Uke had allegedly forged documents of the land originally owned by Vitthal Dhawale and later declared excess by the government. Uke and others allegedly the sold the plots.
Subsequently, it was allotted to NIT and since the 1990s it was owned by it.
“Uke along with his accomplices developed illegal layouts and sold the plots on the basis of false and forged documents. By doing so, they defrauded NIT to the tune of Rs 7,43,33,000,” Patil said in his FIR.
On the basis of the complaint, Ajni police booked them under sections 120 (B), 420, 423, 424, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 474 of the IPC.
Sources said that in 2018, Ajni police, led by the then senior PI Lalit Vartikar, had filed an FIR against Uke after his involvement came to the fore in another similar scam in this part of the city. The police then had informed NIT about the land scam by Baghel, Uke among five others.
Recently, NIT’s divisional officer Patil completed his inquiry which revealed that the then Ajni police investigation was correct. On January 5, Patil had filed an FIR.
12 cases registered so far
The city police has so far registered 12 cases against Satish Uke and his brothers. In the last 18 months, four cases have been registered against Uke. A case has already been registered against his brothers for grabbing the land of Aishwarya Society adjacent to NIT’s land. Police chief Amitesh Kumar said Uke and his brother Pradeep have grabbed the land of many. Both were arrested in a case by the enforcement directorate and are presently in jail.
