Four of gang involved in five murders nabbed in Surat
Gang members were hiding in Kadodara
SURAT: The crime branch of the city police, along with the Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar police, carried out a joint operation and arrested four members of Mohna Thakur gang from Godadara area on Friday.
The four accused were allegedly involved in five murders during a gangwar with Pinku Yadav gang that took place on December 8 in Bhawanipur of Bihar. The accused were hiding in Kadodara, an industrial area in Surat, and the STF was camping in the city following specific information about their location.
Police arrested Sumarkuwar Fagukuwar Bhumihar (26), Dhriajsingh alias Mukeshsingh Arvind Singh (19), Aman Satyendra Tiwari (19) and Abhishek alias Tiger Shreeram Rai (21). The accused were booked at Barali police station in Katihar district of Bihar.
Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that the accused have a long criminal record and they were involved in multiple murders.
"Soon after the gangwar, the accused had escaped from Bihar to avoid getting arrested. They were trying to search for work as labourers in Kadodara," said a police officer. The accused were changing locations even in Surat as they were afraid of getting caught.
Out of fear, the people in Katihar district of Bihar had provided shelter to the accused for one or two days. The accused did not get permanent accommodation or job because of their background, police said.
After the gangwar between the Thakur and Yadav gangs that lasted for over three hours, the bodies were thrown into Ganga river. The Thakur gang had also killed Yadav gang leader Pinku. Both the gangs used deadly weapons to attack each other. The murder accused found it easy to hide in the midst of migrant population from Bihar and chose Surat, police claimed.
