Bhubaneswar: Fifteen families of sex workers, who claimed to have been living near the railway overbridge along National Highway-16 close to Rasulgarh, staged protest against the demolition of their houses. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and state police jointly carried out the demolition of the houses that were allegedly constructed illegally on NHAI land. The sex workers claimed they had been living there and were enjoying all government entitlements. “Since the day of eviction, we have been living out in the open and have lost our livelihood. We request the authorities to provide us shelter as soon as possible,” said a sex worker. TNN
