BRO’s concerted efforts ensured opening of Zoji La Pass so far

Amid heavy snowfall at Zoji La Pass, BRO Karmyogis with lasting efforts under Project Beacon ensured the opening of the pass and facilitated connectivity to the Ladakh region. On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, the Zoji La Pass is located at an elevation of 11,643 feet. This pass serves as the lifeline between the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh. Last year, Zoji La Pass was kept open till Jan 03. However, this year with the concerted efforts of Project Beacon, for the first time ever Zoji La Pass was kept open till January 06. Freezing temperatures of up to –20º C, insufficient oxygen, high winds and avalanches are common in this terrain, despite all odds, BRO ensured the unhindered movement of vehicles across Zoji La Pass.
