Air India urination case: Accused Shankar Mishra arrested from Bengaluru

NEW DELHI: In a late night development, Shankar Mishra, accused of urinating on a woman passenger on an Air India flight from New York to Delhi, was arrested from Bengaluru on Friday.
Earlier on Thursday, a team of four police officials from Delhi landed in Bengaluru and launched a hunt for Mishra. Assisted by city police, the Delhi team visited Mishra's office and home in Marathahalli in the Whitefield division on Friday, but in vain.
"First, the Delhi police team visited his house in Marathahalli based on his last mobile location. Mishra's sister and other family members were present in the house. After searching the house, the team visited his office, collected some documents and left," sources said.

"Later in the night, cops traced Mishra to another place in Bengaluru and arrested him after serving the notice," they added.
Mishra had allegedly urinated on a 70-year-old woman in an inebriated condition in the business class of the Air India flight on November 26 last year.

He was sacked from US financial services firm Wells Fargo on Friday. "Wells Fargo holds employees to the highest standards of professional and personal behaviour and we find these allegations deeply disturbing. This individual has been terminated from Wells Fargo," the company said.

The senior citizen, who was too shocked to react, had written to Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekaran about the incident.
"My clothes, shoes and bag were completely soaked in urine. The stewardess followed me to the seat, verified that it smelled of urine, and sprayed disinfectant on my bag and shoes. The bag contained my passport, travel documents and currency, among other items," the letter said.

Calling them 'unprofessional', Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday issued showcause notices to Air India officials, including all the pilots and cabin crew members who operated the New York to Delhi flight on November 26.
Though the incident occurred on November 26, Air India did not file an FIR with the Delhi airport police station giving details of the incident till TOI carried the report. This was despite the woman writing to the Tatas and the airline, alleging that the crew was “not proactive in managing a very sensitive and traumatic situation… I am particularly distressed the airline made no attempt to ensure my safety or comfort during this incident”.
