NYF: Priority to youths at event
Dharwad: Union parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi and former CM Jagadish Shettar on Friday launched the portal of the 26th National Youth Festival for registration of participants and for passes in Dharwad on Friday.
Joshi said Dharwad was hosting the festival for the first time and 8,000 delegates from across the country will participate.
The inaugural ceremony will be held on the Hubballi Railway Grounds and PM Modi will address it.
All the sporting and cultural events will be held in Dharwad.
Modi will address the youths at 4 pm and those interested should be present at the venue by 2 pm. Food and water will be supplied to all, he said
A portal has been launched for registration and passes and only youths will be allowed to attend the events, he said. To ferry the youths from their respective taluks, free bus rides will be provided. As of now, it has been decided to ferry five buses each from every taluk. If the demand is more, additional buses will be arranged for, he said.
There will be slew of programmes displaying the culture, traditions and cuisines of every state.
Joshi emphasised that this is a non-political event and the focus was on enabling students to know the culture, arts and traditions of other states, Joshi said.
DC Gurudatt Hegde asked the college principals to open an NYF counter and help students register.
PM to visit IIT-Dharwad
Minister Joshi said PM Modi will visit Dharwad city in the last week of February to inaugurate the new campus of IIT-Dharwad. Modi will address a gathering in Dharwad, he said.
