NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) property tax collection has increased by 20% to Rs 135 crore by January 6 in the current financial year 2022-23, against Rs 110 crore during the corresponding period last year.
NMC has set the property tax collection target of Rs 150 crore for the current financial year and it has to collect Rs 17 crore to meet the target by March end.
Last month, NMC administration served notices to over 75,000 defaulters, who owe around Rs 309 crore towards property tax, asking them to pay their tax dues within a fortnight.
This yielded good results as over 7,500 defaulters cleared their dues amounting to Rs 23 crore in the last 15 days.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started issuing warrants to the property tax defaulters who have failed to clear their dues despite being issued first notice last month. So far, NMC’s property tax department has issued warrants to 45 defaulters, giving them a 21-day deadline for making the payment. Not abiding by the deadline will lead to confiscation of the properties.
