RAJKOT: Three men robbed Rs 1.95 lakh from the office of a distributor of snacks in Rajkot after midnight on Thursday. They entered into the office by force, put the security guard at knifepoint and committed the robbery.
A complaint was lodged at Gandhidham police station by Kalpesh Amreliya, partner of Amreliya Balaji Sales Agency located on Madhapar Bedi road. According to the complaint, Amreliya rushed to his business premises around 3am after he got a call from the son of his security guard.
The security guard, Puna Katad, has been working with the agency for the past 12 years. The guard's son informed Amreliya that a man with his face covered trespassed into the premises and asked the guard for keys at knifepoint. Soon two other men with their faces covered joined the first man.
The guard was taken to the upper floor of the premises from the parking lot. The security guard did not have the keys for the rooms on the upper floor. So the robbers broke the lock and handles of the doors.
The security guard was asked to stay downstairs and one of the robbers stayed with him to keep a watch on him. After half an hour, the two other robbers came out from the upper floor. Then the three left the premises after breaking the mobile phone of the security guard.
The security guard approached another security guard at a nearby premises, borrowed his phone and informed his son who in turn informed the owners.
Amreliya found that his office had been ransacked and Rs 1.95 lakh kept in the drawer of a table was missing. He then informed the police. Assistant commissioner of police (west) B V Pandya said, "We have activated our sources and started investigation by checking the CCTV footages."
