Ludhiana: A day after family of a dead man attacked staff and vandalised Ludhiana civil hospital following swapping of bodies to two men, police deployment was intensified at the hospital with cops asking the health department to give a room for security picket inside the hospital.
Police officials said even as four ASIs and a lady constable are posted at the police post in the civil hospital, some of them were on VIP duty regarding the chief minister’s visit to Ludhiana on Thursday. They said as the number of cops were less at the civil hospital, the protesters didn’t face much resistance and went on a rampage.
ADCP Rupinder Kaur Sra said they have asked the health department to give police a room in the emergency so that few police personnel are deputed there. She said a PCR motorcycle and a van with CCTV cameras has been deployed at the hospital campus for a few days.
The officer indicated that even as the protesters had gathered outside the mortuary at 8am, there was a delay on part of health department officials and police was informed about the incident around 9.15am. She added that they have written to the civil Ssurgeon to brief the staff about seeking police support without delay.
