CHANDIGARH: The Punjab vigilance bureau on Friday arrested Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer Narinder Singh Dhaliwal, who was posted as regional transport authority (RTA) at Ludhiana, for allegedly collecting bribes from transporters.
Following a complaint at chief minister’s anti-corruption action line on November 18 last year, the bureau found that Dhaliwal allegedly indulged in collecting bribes through some private persons from different transporters on monthly basis in Ludhiana on pretext of not issuing challans against their vehicles.
Complainant Satnam Singh Dhawan of Mankawal village in Ludhiana district had accused RTA, Ludhiana, of collecting bribes and even sent video clips of Punjab Home Guards (PHG) volunteer Bahadar Singh and Dhaliwal to the helpline number. The probe established that Dhaliwal collected bribe money on a monthly basis and had received of Rs 4 lakh bribe in December, of which he kept Rs 1.7 lakh and gave Rs 2.3 lakh to Bahadar.
The PHG volunteer told the vigilance bureau that being a subordinate employee of the RTA he only followed the orders and he could produce bribe money of Rs 2.3 lakh.
An FIR was registered against Dhaliwal and others under sections 7, 7-A, and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy at the vigilance bureau police station in Ludhiana on Friday and the officer was arrested.He will be produced in a local court on Saturday.
