The task force was constituted by former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to keep a check on various activities related to the project, and to ensure its timely completion. Thakur
Uday Singh, head of the Namdhari sect of Bhaini Sahib, was the patron of this task force but he had resigned from the post once the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government took over in Punjab.
The patron of the new task force is environmentalist and Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal, while other members include MLAs Ashok Prashar Pappi, Gurpreet Gogi, Daljit Singh Grewal and Madan Lal Bagga, all from the AAP. Besides, Ludhiana mayor Balkar Sandhu, municipal corporation (MC) commissioner, MC deputy commissioner, Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Corporation’s CEO, industries department’s director, chief engineer of drainage department, additional superintending engineer of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Punjab Energy Development Authority’s chairman Harvinder Singh Hanspal, and industrialist Anil Thapar are the other members of this task force.
Upon being inducted into the force, MLA Grewal claimed there only at aim was to clean the polluted Buddha Nullah and convert it into a dariya again. He said they would keep a check on the ongoing project and will take all required steps to keep the water body clean.
During his visit to Ludhiana in July last year, Baba Seechewal had suggested the MC officials to find means to utilize the treated water instead of throwing it back into the Buddha Nullah. Now that he is in charge, the task force is expected to work on similar lines.
