OSR land worth 3.4cr retrieved
Coimbatore: A team from the north zone of the city corporation retrieved 22 cents of open space reservation (OSR) land worth 3.4 crore, which was used for commercial purposes.
The land is in BPC Colony in ward 20, next to a children’s park. It was left open when a residential area was developed in the 90s.
North zone assistant town planning officer B Vimala said the officials received information that the space was used by a karate school. “We decided to remove two sheds with asbestos roofing after confirming that fees were collected. I called up the karate coach and inquired about the fees, posing as a parent,” she said.
“The karate school had ceased operation recently. However, to prevent any commercial activity in future, the land was retried and brought under the corporation control. It can be used for construction of public facilities or the children’s play area can be extended,” Vimala added.
