Dharmendra Pradhan suggests health minister Mansukh Mandaviya to start dual degree programme at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar
BHUBANESWAR: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan while attending the 4th annual convocation of the AIIMS Bhubaneswar urged his cabinet colleague Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya to start a dual degree programme at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar by collaborating with IIT Bhubaneswar.
He said the final year MBBS, MS and MD students can go for deep learning on mechanical and digital aspects of their subjects with the help of IIT Bhubaneswar. Similarly, IIT Bhubaneswar students can get to know about medical science while making machines for hospitals, he added.
“AIIMS Jammu and IIT Jammu have jointly started a dual degree programme of a duration of 4.5 years for their students. Similarly, we can start dual degree programmes at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and IIT Bhubaneswar,” said Pradhan.
He advised students and staff to plant 5,000 trees on the campus every year to make AIIMS Bhubaneswar a carbon-neutral atmosphere. Steps should be taken to keep the campus clean and free from plastic, he added.
He said mother tongue should be given importance in education.
“More than 15,000 students have downloaded engineering books in Odia languages from e-Kumbh portal of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). Students want to study in their mother tongue and we cannot deprive them of this opportunity,” he added.
