PWD contractors stage protest over assault by engg

Thiruvananthapuram: The members of the Kerala Government Contractors Federation have staged a protest in front of the office of the executive engineer of PWD roads division (campus) at Nandavanam on Friday morning demanding to suspend an officer who allegedly assaulted a contractor. The alleged assault happened when the contractor questioned the delay in clearing a bill over a work done.
However, the PWD officers denied the charge and are also planning to move legally against the contractors for disrupting duty.
Contractor Mohan Kumar was allegedly assaulted by Jijo Manohar, assistant engineer, when the former questioned the delay in clearing the bill for a work done by contractor Suresh Kumar at Vattiyoorkavu. It was alleged that Jijo had not cleared the bill for drainage work done nine months ago. The contractors have also registered a police case against Jijo for assaulting Mohan Kumar. TNN
