Cheap gadgets offer costs man ₹1.5 crore
Gurgaon: A 40-year-old man was allegedly cheated of Rs 1.5 crore after he lent the money to his acquaintance who impersonated a senior employee of a branded mobile company.
The victim, requesting anonymity, said, “I met Priyank Kumar from Ghaziabad through a common friend in 2020. He introduced himself as the former director of a mobile brand and said he can buy branded electronic products at cheaper rates. I and my family members had ordered some gadgets via him and we also became friends.”
In April 2022, Kumar met the victim again and asked him for money. “He said he urgently needed money as a big shipment got stuck. Being in a friendly relation, I transferred him the money in various transactions. But when I asked him to return the money, he told me that he will sell a shop in Ghaziabad and will return my money. Then he started ignoring my calls. I met his family in Ghaziabad who told me that he is planning to leave the country,” the victim added.
An FIR has been lodged at Sector 14 under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
