Loot suspect escapes from custody but held again, 6 cops face FIRs
Noida: The GB Nagar police commissioner suspended six police personnel for negligence after a looting suspect, arrested by Ecotech 3 police, fled from their custody on Thursday. Though the police managed to nab the suspect again later in the evening following a gunfight, the commissioner has ordered to lodge FIRs against the suspended cops.
During the gunfight, the accused Rajeev alias Raka, a resident of Khedi village in Greater Noida, was shot on his leg.
“He was being taken to Ecotech 3 police station when he suddenly snatched a cop’s gun and tried to flee again. In retaliation, he got a bullet injury in his leg and has been admitted to a hospital,” said ADCP Saad Miya Khan. Rajeev was first nabbed on Wednesday for allegedly looting a collection agent of a telecommunication distributor of Rs 1.21 lakh in 2016.
“The district court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Rajiv and accordingly he was brought to the Ecotech 3 police station. However, he shortly escaped police custody despite the presence of several cops,” added Khan. According to a police statement, Ecotech 3 station in-charge Pawan Kumar, sub-inspectors (SIs) Kuldeep Kumar and Manoj Rathi and constables Satendra Kumar, Gaurav and Ritika, were suspended over the incident. The SIs and constables have also been booked for laxity.
“An FIR has been lodged and a detailed inquiry is being conducted over the laxity of the policemen involved. This would be followed by punishment as per rules,” Khan added.
This is the second such incident in three weeks. On December 19, a rape suspect managed to flee from police custody during his medical examination.
