Ludhiana: Spreading the message of ‘swachhta’ and encouraging the residents to support the authorities in proper solid waste management, the municipal corporation (MC) felicitated 10 ‘swachhta champions’ during an event organised at MC zone D office on Thursday.
These included members of different NGOs, college principal, and school teachers among others. The ‘swachhta champions’ have been involved in spreading awareness about home composting, source segregation of dry and wet waste at homes, re-using waste plastic and other materials, and plantation.
Civic body’s zonal commissioner Jasdev Sekhon handed over the certificates to the members working in association with the MC. These included Ritu Malha, a teacher from Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar; Vipra Kale of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School; Subhash Chander from Jeev Jantu Paryavarn Sambhal Sewa Samiti (NGO), Geetanjali Pabrej, professor at SCD Government College, Sukhwinder Kaur from Jeet foundation (NGO), Mandeep Guddu from Marshal Aid (NGO), Gaurav Singh from Switch For Change (NGO), Dr Mukti Gill, principal of Khalsa College for Women, Pankaj Jindal from Bharat Vikas Parishad Charitable Trust and a teacher in Government Senior Secondary Smart School, PAU Rumani Ahuja.
MC medical officer Vipul Malhotra said these members had been working in various fields of waste management and have been supporting the civic body in spreading awareness among masses.
