Sattari group to protest river diversion

Valpoi: Social activists and environmentalists from Sattari, under the banner ‘Amchi Mhadei Amka Zai’, have threatened to hold taluka-level agitations if the Centre fails to withdraw the permission granted to the DPR (detailed project report) submitted by Karnataka for the Kalasa-Bhandura project.
Valpoi-based lawyer Shivaji Desai said that they oppose the implementation of the project and want the DPR approval to be revoked. “Diversion of Mhadei will not just affect water, but it falls in a highly eco-sensitive zone and will also affect the Forest Conservation Act and Wildlife Protection Act,” he said.
Desai called for a task force which will visit the site and collect evidence to be presented in court.
