JSR kennel club’s dog show back after Covid break
Jamshedpur: In a piece of good news for animal lovers across the Steel City, the much awaited annual three-day dog show is set to be held after a gap of two years starting January 6.
Not only is the event being held after the pandemic, but the main attraction of the dog show, organised by the Jamshedpur Kennel Club, is a record participation of 430 dogs, said Sudipto Sarkar, secretary of the club on Wednesda. He said the number is the highest in any eastern region event till date.
Even before the pandemic, the number of applicants were 100 or lesser, Sarkar said. This time, however, the show is to be held at a new venue - Loyola school grounds in Jamshedpur and for the first time, Beagle and Labrador Retriever speciality shows have been introduced along with other categories.
Sarkar said Jamshedpur dogs have always performed well in shows across the country, including the one in the city. “Beauty” of Tata Steel Kennel has won many awards since 2016, which includes Best Obedience Dog in India award more than three times. The club will also recognise two dogs and their trainers for their exemplary service and unparalleled levels of excellence in the obedience test.
The club secretary said 43 breeds of dogs are participating, of which 12 are taking part for the first time. The event will start around 8.30am and continue till 6pm. Seventeen exotic breeds are the star attraction for canine lovers. He said participants from Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Uttar Pradesh will take part. Apart from India, there are judges from Singapore, South Korea and Thailand. Sarkar expressed confidence that as the venue is bigger, the footfall will be much higher than in previous years.
Ruchi Narendran, a member of the club said people thronging the venue should follow COVID protocols.
