BIJNOR: A 15-year-old girl, who lost her mother several months ago, was allegedly raped by her stepfather in a locality of Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district, police said on Thursday.
The matter came to light after the girl approached Hasanpur police station and narrated her ordeal to the cops.
Later on December 19, the girl was given counselling by the members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after which she levelled serious charges against her stepfather, said circle officer Arun Kumar.
Police said a case has been registered against the accused, based on the complaint filed by CWC chairman Atulesh Kumar Bharadwaj.
He has been arrested and sent to jail under judicial custody, they said. The accused had married the victim's mother five years ago. However, she died due to illness several years ago. Thereafter, the girl started living with her stepfather who allegedly raped her multiple times, according to police.
