Bathinda: The Ferozepur district administration on Thursday claimed that 12 samples of water and soil had been collected from inside a liquor distillery in Zira which is accused of causing
pollution in surrounding villages.
The announcement came a day before activist group Zira Sanjha Morcha would organise a big gathering at the protest site outside the distillery for the bhog ceremony of Rajvir Singh, who lived 500 metres from the distillery and died in December due to a kidney ailment. It has been alleged that the kidney ailment was due to pollution caused by the distillery.
These samples will be sent to three laboratories for testing. The administration claimed that 19 firearms licenses which were revoked earlier, will be restored at the earliest.
Ferozepur additional deputy commissioner Sagar Setia said five samples of water and two samples of soil were collected from the distillery of Malbros International Private Limited, while five remaining water samples were collected from Mansoorwal Kalan, Ratol Rohi and Saner villages. tnn
