Police have arrested a 18-year-old youth for ‘negligent driving’ after his motorcycle rammed into another, and the impact led to the death of a 65-year-old man and his 10-year-old grandson. The incident took place at Dive village on Hadapsar-Saswad Road around 2 pm on Wednesday, said police.

The deceased — Gokul Kondiba Zende and his grandson Padmanath Nilesh Zende — were residents of Dive village. According to police, Gokul and Padmanath were travelling via Saswad Road on Wednesday afternoon, when the accused motorcycle rider — Yashovardhan Magdum, a resident of Hadapsar — hit their two-wheeler from the rear side. The impact was so severe that Gokul and Padmanath collapsed on the road, suffered severe injuries, and died. Aryan Chinchkar, who was riding pillion, was also injured in the incident.

Based on a complaint filed by their family member Pravin Zende (32), an FIR was registered against Magdum under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Saswad police station. Police arrested Magdum on Thursday.
