AISTA pegs India's 2022-23 sugar production lower by 3.6%

According to AISTA, the sugar production of Maharashtra in ongoing 2022-23 season will be 12.4 million tonnes against 13.7 million tonnes in the previous year. Sugar production of second largest producer Uttar Pradesh has been pegged at 10.5 million tonnes against 10.2 million tonnes in the previous year.

Private trade body All India Sugar Traders Association (AISTA) has pegged India's 2022-23 sugar production at 34.5 million tonnes, down by 3.63% over previous year's production of 35.8 million tonnes in its first sugar production estimate for 2022-23 released today.

According to AISTA, the sugar production of Maharashtra in ongoing 2022-23 season will be 12.4 million tonnes against 13.7 million tonnes in the previous year. Sugar production of second largest producer Uttar Pradesh has been pegged at 10.5 million tonnes against 10.2 million tonnes in the previous year.

AISTA expects 5 million tonnes of sucrose to be diverted for ethanol production from B heavy mollases, sugar syrup and sugarcane juice.

"The recovery rate in western and central Uttar Pradesh is slightly lower due to the red rot disease," said crop committee of AISTA.
