2 students held for New Year road crash in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Two engineering students of Manipal University whose rash driving led to the death of two pedestrians on Road No. 3, Banjara Hills, in the early hours of January 1 were arrested by police on Thursday.
Banjara Hills police said K Pranav and Sai Vardhan, both 21, were taken into custody after they were discharged from hospital. They were arrested under IPC section of culpable homicide not amouting to murder. Police officials said medical reports confirmed that Pranav who was at the wheel was drunk when he ran over the pedestrians. Pranav's blood alcohol content was 140 mg/100 ml, police said.
At around 5.30 am on New Year day, the duo who were coming from Madhapur in their car mowed down B Eshwari (55), a helper in a hospital, and A Sinu (50), a painter, who were walking on the road. Both died on the spot. Both the accused, who suffered injuries under the impact of the crash after their car went out of control and hit two parked cars near an eatery, were shifted to a hospital where they underwent treatment. tnn
