Thiruvananthapuram: The Heera Twins Apartment owner’s association at Pattom has released a controversial notice denying residence to unmarried tenants, and asking them to vacate within the next two months. The sudden notice which also includes a slew of directives to be abided by existing tenants comes as a shock to professionals and students staying there.
“According to the notice published on January 3, bachelors are to vacate their apartments within two months as this building is apparently meant for families. We have been given restrictions on having visitors over too. Except for blood relatives, guests from the opposite gender are not allowed while same-gender guests can enter after writing down their Aadhar details in the security register. It has been specifically mentioned in the notice that any disagreements with the watchmen will involve police and our guardians. I have been staying here for around two years with my roommate and we have always been subjected to one or the other form of judgment,” says
Durga, a social media executive.
Six out of 22 apartments in the building have been rented out to unmarried people who are either professionals or students. “We were not even informed of these changes in person nor did they conduct any public discussions,” adds Durga.
The association’s president is yet to respond to TOI’s queries on the matter. TNN
