HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is likely to hold its first public meeting at Nanded in Maharashtra after Sankranti festival.
It will be the party's first public meeting after rechristening itself BRS from its earlier avatar, TRS.
Telangana Civil Supplies Corporation chairman Sardar Ravinder Singh had recently toured Nanded town to short-list locations for holding the public meeting. Sources said BRS is planning to hold party workers' meeting where leaders would join the party and also a public meeting at a private college grounds in the evening.
"There is overwhelming response to BRS in Nanded and many local leaders are keen on joining the party. BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao will take a call on the meeting date,"
Ravinder Singh told TOI on Thursday.
Soon after announcing the transformation of TRS into BRS, KCR had announced that a public meeting would be held in December second week. But the party deferred the meeting plan.
KCR had deputed Ravinder Singh as the Sikh community has significant presence in Nanded. He also accompanied the CM during his visit to Delhi and Chandigarh for distribution of cheques to farmers, who lost their lives during farmers' movement. During his visit to Nanded, the former Karimnagar mayor interacted with some leaders, who are keen on joining BRS.
BRS chose the district headquarter on the Telangana-Maharashtra border as the party is planning to contest the assembly constituencies there in that state assembly and
Lok Sabha polls. The other reason was there were requests from 40 villages in Nanded district and Dharmabad mandal to merge their villages in Telangana.
A week ago, Telangana minister, who represents the Nirmal assembly constituency on Maharashtra border, A Indrakaran Reddy, toured Kini village in Bhokar taluk in Nanded district and held a meeting with farmer unions and some locals. He explained to them the schemes being implemented by the Telangana government for the benefit of farmers. The BRS is planning to launch Kisan cells in about eight states, including Maharashtra.
Telangana tourism and excise minister V Srinivas Goud held a meeting with Gouds and Yadav communities in Bengaluru a few days ago and explained the schemes being implemented by the BRS government for the welfare of toddy tappers and Yadavs.
