JAIPUR: Food and civil supplies minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas on Thursday cleared his stance on not supporting Anti-Corruption Bureau's (ACB) recent order restraining its officials from revealing the names and identities of government employees who are under investigation for corruption charges.
Khachariyawas said this order cannot be considered the state government's order. "This is not the government's order. The newly appointed DG issued this order. I believe this is not in the chief minister's knowledge. The highest number of raids against corruption are conducted in
Rajasthan. Our belief is that no corrupt official can go scot-free. We have arrested IAS and IPS officers in the past. As a representative of the government, I am personally not in favour of such orders," he said.
"Our government will keep talking about the corrupt people. Congress leaders and workers will not support such orders issued by the DG (of ACB)," added Khachariyawas.
Earlier in the day, the Opposition BJP attacked Congress and requested Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to withdraw the order. Leader of the Opposition Gulabchand Kataria described the order as 'Tughlaqi' and said such orders would tarnish the image of ACB, which has a reputation in the entire nation. "The order should be withdrawn as it would destroy ACB's image," said Kataria.
BJP leader Rajendra Rathore alleged that the ACB's move was an attempt by the state government to protect corrupt government officials and employees. "Why is the Gehlot government so concerned about the people found involved in corruption in trap operations?" asked Rathore.
"A trap is never laid without a pre-certified information. Does the CM accept that before laying a trap, ACB acts to falsely implicate innocent public servants?" he tweeted.
