Mangaluru: A large number of items were gutted, after a fire broke out in a food manufacturing unit at the Industrial Estate in Yeyyadi on Thursday. While a short-circuit is suspected to be the reason for the fire, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
A senior fire officer who was present at the spot, said that as soon as they received information, at least four fire tenders were pressed into action, to douse the fire.
Locals noticed smoke billowing from the unit.
No casualties have been reported. The fire was brought under control in an hour’s time, however, heavy smoke was reported at the unit for a long time.
Senior officers, including chief fire officer G Thippeswamy, and district fire officer Mohammed Nawaz Kadri were present. The evaluation of the loss of property is yet to be undertaken.
