2 dead, 2 injured as truck hits bike amid dense fog on e-way

Noida: Two youths died and two were injured when a truck crashed into their bike from behind on the Noida expressway early on Thursday.
Police said the four – Bhawna, Shobhit, Kaushal and Sonu – were returning home from work at an eatery in Greater Noida when the accident occurred near the Advant building in Sector 142. It was around 1.45am, when there was a dense layer of fog in the area.
The four, police said, were from the same family in UP’s Firozabad and stayed on rent in Noida Sector 49. They worked at a restaurant in Chi-V.
“It seems that the truck driver did not slow down near the under-construction underpass like other vehicles, despite a bottleneck, and hit the bike from behind. There was reduced visibility due to fog as well,” said Ashutosh Dwivedi, additional DCP, Noida.
Of the four youths, Bhawna (19) and Shobhit (23) died, while Kaushalendra alias Kaushal and Sonu have been hospitalised. Bhawna was Kaushalendra’s sister.
“The vehicle was subsequently impounded and its driver, Arun Pratap, who had fled the spot, was arrested later in the day,” said Dwivedi. “During interrogation, the accused told us that due to fog, the truck first rammed into a roadside barrier and then the bike.”
An FIR has been registered against Singh under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (death due to negligence), 337 (whoever causes hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life), 338 (whoever causes grievous hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly as to endanger human) and 427 (mischief) at the Expressway Police Station.
Shobhit's elder brother Shiv Kumar told TOI that all four of them got free around 12am.
“They first tried to book a cab but couldn't find one for a long time. As it was getting late, they decided to get on the bike and leave for home. Shobhit and Bhawna, both cousins, relocated to Noida for work around two years ago,” he added.
