The total number of arrests has gone up to three, police said on Thursday.
PATNA: Two more accused have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape of a class VIII student in the state capital Monday night. The arrested accused have been identified as Golu Kumar, the main accused, and his friend Sugreev Kumar (21) of Jalla Hanuman Mandir locality under Bypass police station area.
With this, the total number of arrests has gone up to three, police said on Thursday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the special investigation team (SIT) probing the incident, arrested Mukesh Kumar (23). The two other accused, including the autorickshaw driver, were still evading arrest.
The horrid incident took place when the 14-year-old girl was on her way home after attending the coaching classes.
On Thursday, City SP (East) Sandeep Singh said while returning from coaching, Golu lured the victim and took her to an isolated field about 700 metres away from Tent City Road. "On his way, the accused invited his two friends, Pramod and Sugreev, over the phone to meet him. A small tarpaulin was put up in the field, where the trio raped her," he told the media persons.
"Sugreev and Golu left the spot. After that Pramod lured the victim and brought her to his friend Mukesh's house and then both raped her. On Tuesday morning, the victim was dropped near Shanichara temple by Pramod and Mukesh. All the arrested accused have confessed to their crime. The team is conducting raids to nab the other accused," he said.
Two FIRs have been registered in this case, based on the statement of the victim's mother - one against the four youths and another against the unknown autorickshaw driver.
Patna SSP Manavjit Singh Dhillon told TOI that the rape survivor said after the accused left her near the temple, she took an autorickshaw to reach home but even the driver raped her.
"The police have scrutinized the CCTV footage near the spot but could not find any clue about the driver," he said.
